Files and folders were accidentally deletedDepending whether the subject drive is a system or data drive, you should follow the appropriate procedure to write-protect it. See "Chapter 2: Data or System Drive?" Since the file system structure is intact, use the Quick Search first and the Long Search only if necessary. In Windows® XP, 2003, 2000 and NT, files removed from the Recycle Bin may be renamed to the following internal format: D + drive letter + random number + original file extension. For example, "myfile.doc" on drive E may be renamed to "DE34.doc". In most cases, File Scavenger® can restore and display the original names. In some cases, however, this is not possible, and the internal Recycle Bin names are displayed. In Windows® Vista the internal Recycle Bin filenames are: $R + 6 random letters or numbers + original file extension For example, "myfile.doc" may be renamed to "$RKEF1E2.doc". |
