Chapter 13: Overview of RAID Reconstruction

Hardware RAID

Hardware RAID is implemented in either the motherboard directly or a separate RAID card. Windows® detects the RAID as a single disk and cannot access the individual component disks which are controlled by the RAID hardware.

In the following Windows Disk Manager screen, Disk 2 (drive D) is a hardware RAID 0 composed of two 18.68-GB disks, displayed as a single 37.35-GB disk.
