The Long Search usually works better for the following problems:

• FAT/FAT32 partitions.
• Reformatted drives.
• Severely corrupt drives.

Files without the original filename

On severely corrupt drives, files may be found without the original folder or even filename. When the original filename cannot be determined, a file will be named as follows:

Unknown + sequential number + file extension.

For example, the first Excel file is named "Unknown000001.xls".

Recovering Data

Files found during the search are displayed as shown in Figure 6.3. To select a file for recovery, click on the adjacent checkbox. Hold Shift to select a range of files. Hold Control to select multiple files that may be non-adjacent.
