Chapter 3: Recovering Files from a Data Drive

Warning: The procedures below are effective for a data drive. (See “Chapter 2: Data or System Drive?”) For system drives, see “Chapter 4: Recovering Files from a System Drive.”

As mentioned in the previous chapter, a data drive holds only user programs and data. The drive is not changed as long as the programs residing on it are inactive.

The recovery procedure for a data drive consists of six steps:

  1. Protect the subject drive.
  2. Install File Scavenger®.
  3. Search for files.
  4. Activate File Scavenger®.
  5. Recover files to a destination folder.
  6. Validate the recovered files.
