Q: Can I undelete files that were emptied from the Windows® Recycle Bin?
A: You can undelete files that were emptied from the Recycle Bin just like any other files. The only difference is that the Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP Recycle Bin may have changed the filenames. For example, if you are looking for "test.doc", you may need to specify "*.doc" as your search criteria because the file may have been renamed to, say "du0.doc". Use other information such as size, date, etc. to look for your files among the list of returned files.Q: What are the strengths of File Scavenger as a Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP undelete product?
A: File Scavenger
was designed as a high-quality commercial product. The many strengths include:
*.doc
),
all files in a folder (e.g. "\folder1\*"), etc.
Q: Can I undo a format operation on an NTFS disk partition?
A: File Scavenger cannot undo a format operation on an NTFS partition. However, it can undelete individual files on the partition under mormal conditions. You need to know the cluster size of the original partition and will need to specify exhaustive search mode. Even though file contents may be recovered, directory path information will not.
Before File Scavenger can search for files on the partition, you need to redefine and format the partition. The new partition must reside at the same disk location and have the same size as the deleted partition.
Q: When undeleting files on large disks, what can I do to speed up scanning of the disk?
A:Searching
is faster with more specific
search patterns such as "a*.txt", compared to, for example, "*.doc",
or "*.*".
Q: What is the licensing
policy for File Scavenger? A: File Scavenger is licensed
per computer. Once you have downloaded and installed the software, you can search for deleted
files on a disk. However, in order to undelete files, you need to provide a license code that
can be bought by credit card from our web site http://www.quetek.com. The license code bought for one computer can be
transferred to a second computer provided that the software is completely removed from the first computer. Q: Can File Scavenger
recover compressed files? A: Yes. File Scavenger
can undelete files that were compressed using the standard Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP compression engine. Q: Can File Scavenger cause
any harms to my files or disk partitions? A: Absolutely no. When you
search a partition, File Scavenger accesses the partition with READ ONLY permissions. When you
recover a file to a new location, data are read from the partition. Then they are written to the
new location using normal file I/O operations. Send mail to support@quetek.com with questions or
comments about this web site.
